Decibel Review: Fully Onchain Perpetuals DEX on Aptos
What Is Decibel? A Perpetual Futures DEX on Aptos L1
Decibel is a fully onchain perpetual futures exchange (DEX) built on the Aptos L1 blockchain. Incubated by Aptos Labs and operated by the Decibel Foundation, it launched its mainnet on February 26, 2026. During its testnet phase, the platform recorded over 700,000 accounts, 132,000 daily active users, and more than 1 million daily transactions. Decibel uses usDCBL, a protocol-native stablecoin issued through Bridge (a Stripe subsidiary), as its collateral asset. Yield from the backing reserves stays within the protocol rather than flowing to an external issuer.
Fully Onchain CLOB
A central limit order book (CLOB) where order matching, margin checks, and risk management all happen onchain. Every trade is transparent and verifiable on the block explorer.
Sub-Second Finality
Aptos L1's Block-STM parallel execution engine delivers sub-second transaction finality, bringing onchain trading speeds close to those of centralized exchanges.
Fully Non-Custodial
As a wallet-connected DEX, you keep control of your own assets. There is no counterparty risk associated with a centralized exchange holding your funds.
Key Features of Decibel
As a newer entrant in the perpetual futures DEX space, Decibel's design reflects lessons from earlier protocols. Close ties with Aptos Labs, a flagship Chainlink integration, and a risk engine designed by Gauntlet stand out on the infrastructure side.
X-Chain Accounts
Deposit from Ethereum, Solana, or centralized exchanges in addition to Aptos. During the pre-deposit period, roughly 40-50% of capital came from Ethereum and Solana.
usDCBL Stablecoin
A protocol-native stablecoin issued through Bridge's Open Issuance platform (Bridge is a Stripe subsidiary). It is backed by cash and short-term U.S. Treasury securities, and yield stays within the protocol. USDC deposits convert to usDCBL at a 1:1 ratio.
Chainlink Data Streams Integration
As the flagship Chainlink partner on Aptos, Decibel receives sub-second price updates. Access to premium datasets from S&P Global and Deutsche Borse provides a foundation for potential RWA perpetuals in the future.
Vaults System
A two-tier structure with Standard Vaults (manager-operated pools) and the DLP Vault (protocol-owned, used for market making and backstop liquidation). The DLP Vault absorbs liquidation losses so they are not passed on to other traders.
Advanced Order Types
Supports Market, Limit, TWAP, Stop Market, Stop Limit, and TP/SL orders. Subaccounts and REST/WebSocket APIs are also available for algorithmic traders.
Builder Codes
A fee-sharing system for third-party applications. Developers can integrate Decibel's trading functionality into their own apps and earn a portion of their users' trading fees.
Decibel Trading Fees
Perpetual Futures Fees (Tiered by 30-Day Volume)
Decibel's trading fees follow a tier system based on 30-day volume. At Tier 0, the default rate for regular users is 0.034% taker / 0.011% maker, which is in line with leading perpetuals DEXs. From Tier 4 onward, maker fees drop to 0%.
| Tier | 30-Day Volume | Taker Fee | Maker Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 0 | < $10M | 0.0340% | 0.0110% |
| Tier 1 | > $10M | 0.0300% | 0.0090% |
| Tier 2 | > $50M | 0.0250% | 0.0060% |
| Tier 3 | > $200M | 0.0220% | 0.0030% |
| Tier 4 | > $1B | 0.0210% | 0.0000% |
| Tier 5 | > $4B | 0.0190% | 0.0000% |
| Tier 6 | > $15B | 0.0180% | 0.0000% |
Spot trading is expected to launch in Q2 2026. Only perpetual futures are available at this time.
Trading Pairs and Maximum Leverage
Five trading pairs are available at mainnet launch, with plans to expand to up to 50 pairs.
| Trading Pair | Max Leverage |
|---|---|
| BTC/USD | 40x |
| ETH/USD | 20x |
| SOL/USD | 10x |
| APT/USD | 10x |
| HYPE/USD | 3x |
Each market has individually configured risk parameters, so maximum leverage varies by trading pair.
Other Fees
Decibel Security
Decibel runs a fully onchain risk engine. Margin limits, mark-to-market valuations, and auto-deleveraging (ADL) are all verifiable on the block explorer.
Smart Contract Audits
OtterSec has completed three audits covering the Perps Exchange, Orderbook, and Pre-deposit Contract. Audit reports are available for download through the Decibel app portal.
Risk Management
Gauntlet, a leading DeFi risk management firm, designed and validated the risk engine. Their simulation and stress-test models evaluate resilience against extreme volatility and liquidity shocks.
Liquidation Mechanism
Decibel uses a two-stage liquidation process. Stage 1 closes positions via market orders when maintenance margin is breached. Stage 2 transfers the account to the Backstop Liquidator Vault (DLP Vault) if margin falls below two-thirds of the maintenance requirement. Liquidation losses are absorbed by the protocol-owned Vault rather than passed on to other traders.
Aptos L1 Security Properties
The Move VM's resource-oriented model structurally prevents reentrancy attacks and similar exploits. An encrypted mempool further reduces frontrunning and MEV risks.

How to Get Started with Decibel
Step 1: Set Up a Wallet
Decibel is a DEX on Aptos L1, so you need an Aptos-compatible wallet. Options include Petra Wallet, Martian Wallet, and Pontem Wallet. If you do not have one yet, install the browser extension or mobile app.
Step 2: Prepare USDC
USDC is the collateral asset on Decibel. After depositing, it is automatically converted to the protocol-native usDCBL at a 1:1 ratio. Thanks to X-Chain Accounts, you can deposit not only from Aptos but also from Ethereum, Solana, or centralized exchanges.
Step 3: Connect Your Wallet to Decibel
Go to app.decibel.trade and click the connect button to link your wallet. Because Decibel is a DEX, there is no account registration or KYC required. Wallet authorization is all you need to start using the platform.
Step 4: Deposit USDC and Start Trading
Once your wallet is connected, deposit USDC. It converts to usDCBL and becomes available as collateral for perpetual futures. You can trade BTC/USD, ETH/USD, SOL/USD, APT/USD, and HYPE/USD.
AMPs Points Program and Potential Airdrop
Decibel has a points program called AMPs. Season 0 (the pre-deposit period) ended on February 24, 2026, and Season 1 (mainnet trading rewards) is now live.
Season 1 — Mainnet Trading Rewards
According to Brylee Whatley, Head of the Decibel Foundation, Season 1 is "designed to reward genuine trading activity." A Points menu is available inside the app where you can check your AMPs balance. Specific earning rates and distribution schedules have not been disclosed.
Token Launch and Airdrop
Decibel's native token is planned for launch sometime after 2026, but neither the ticker nor a specific date has been announced. AMPs points may factor into token distribution, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Airdrop is not confirmed
There is no official announcement that AMPs points will convert to a token airdrop. The token launch timeline, distribution criteria, and allocation ratios are all undetermined. Participation in the points program does not guarantee an airdrop.
